Wow, the big went down
Well, i have to say wow, that a big company like that, with its million camps went under. Not only does this change things totally with contracts and seasons, but think of all those planters without jobs...this is HUGE for the remaining companies..its exciting to see what is going to happen. I am so...

gloves or not
I was never a fan of the glove..found I couldn't feel or grab the tree right. I always just duct tape..but since you wanna switch hands...that would be kinda time consuming to duct tape them both (I have seen it done!). The gloves I have seen used are Blue Bell dish gloves. They are blue, with a yel...

The horrors of planting!
Well...I can attest to the horrors of devils club in BC and the stinging nettle. I have spent hrs popping devils club thorns out of my hands after a day of planting..esp. bad in the Herrick valley.....their are FIELDS of it there. And sometimes, when on a steep incline, it is the only thing to grab ...

Boots
All I can say is go for a boot that is ALL leather, one piece, with not too many seams or separate pieces. Those seams just don't stand up to the elements the same as a thick, strong piece of leather does. I have had NO luck with Solomon boots..and others in my camp haven't either. So, I don't recom...

NB gear
I found that these few things I could NOT live without..... - a journal (to vent at night and keep track of tree numbers for yourself) - Q-tips (some dirt gets stuck in there!-just a bit!) -good lotion and lypsyl (dry and cracked hands esp. in spring, lips always dry) (some good ones are glysomed, b...

bugs bugs bugs
1) WATKINS bug dope in LOTION form!! It good because it is more greasy in lotion form and therefore sticks on longer. Its the BEST BESTt for using on your face, not aerosol and therefore don't breath it in as much. 2) Don't recommed bug nets...very hard to see your trees and very HOT. 3) Long sleeve...

going out there alone
My first year planting, I went all alone to Ontario, I was 17yrs old and very scared. But.....you make friends right away. You are in a camp of people who are there to rely on each other and therefore you are not alone and you make friends quickly. It is a bit harder when everyone already knows each...

Moose Creek
Hey there..you aren't likely wondering much about MCR anymore (likely have a job for the summer), but I thought I would still tell you a little about them for future reference! I worked with them for one year, my rookie year. They are based out of Dryden, Ont. A small family owned business, Skene is...
