Re: Rookie Mentor

A rookie only needs to start with two things to ingratiate him or herself to their foreman and their crew

-Hit all the stumps
-Never be late to the truck

Re: Tunes!

LCD Soundsystem's 'Sound of Silver' has been my go-to afternoon album for a couple years. And I'm just listening to the new album for the first time right F. now! Hope it does it for me too. Another favourite is Lowbudget's 'Disco Sensation' - old, old school rap (RC La Rock, Funky 4 + 1, SuperRhyme...

a question re: deducting expenses

My question is this : are my transportation/lodging/food/equipment costs deductable in full, or just a percentage of these expenses? I refiled my return from a few years back after I found thousands of dollars worth of receipts I'd misplaced, and Revenue Canada scrutinized those expenses quite close...

Re: Who Pays vs. Who Doesn't

Checking back in on this thread, I see my statement of personal preference helped lead to a maelstrom of righteous indignation from Nate. Hope I never end up sitting next to you in a truck or at a campfire, although I doubt that's likely considering you'd never allow yourself to be taken advantage o...

Re: Who Pays vs. Who Doesn't

ELF - pays for May in full on June 1st, pays for June sometime in July. Advances always available, hassle-free (unless you're trying to get more than you've actually made thus far) Not the "ideal" for some people, but certainly a passable method in my estimation. Frankly, as someone with n...

Re: Where to buy decent caulk boots?

One of those Surplus Herbie's was in Kamloops. My favourite caulks too - I've had pairs that lasted 150 days before, but sometimes, the rubber splits for no good reason after a couple weeks. When used in combination with another pair of boots - say one for dry days in creamy land, and these for wet ...

Re: BIG SKI SILVICULTURE

I've worked for Big Sky on a couple guest stints in '06 and '07. The ground on the west side of Quesnel is pretty easy. We did a lot of fill, which was generally well priced at 18c. The raw I saw was all great, just not enough of it. I planted trenches there for 11c, which was occasionally too low. ...

Re: sick of OR - who actually makes good gaiters?

I have found out the manufacturer of the gaiters I've been looking for. Chinook Technical Outdoor - their 'heavy duty' model seems better suited to planting than any others I've seen. The picture on the website doesn't make it all too apparent, but these gaiters do not have the "breathable uppe...

I made use of it for the first time in nine seasons (can't believe I never got it together).
With these extra five weeks, my final tally is 8500$. Just for being me.

Creative.
You can also try a plastic container like hummus often comes in - short, round, fits a roll perfectly. make a slit in the side to feed through

Nothing made tent-living more bearable for me than getting clued in to the pee bottle. Or bucket in the vestibule, ladies.

sick of OR - who actually makes good gaiters?

The old MEC gaiters used to be good. Now, not so much. I've also had Lowe Alpine - garbage, Asolo - garbage. OR, short life span. I remember Ryan at Wildwoods had a pair that was all thicker material instead of having half be that shreddable stuff. And buckles instead of clasps. Who's got gaiters th...

Re: A shovel.

I kick with my right foot on my right kicker. If you're used to kicking with your right, I'd suggest you not change. Try and faze the kick out of your repertoire, except for in the hardest ground when you have genuine concern for your arm. I might kick a dozen times on one block a season - less if I...

Re: Contracts out of Bear Lake

I've worked for ELF for 6 years, with three stints in Bear Lake. I hate it (Bear Lake), and won't be going back, but my case was a bit of an anomaly. Prices last year were 16-18c for moderate - slashy ground. Highballers can occasionally hit 3k; 23 or 2400 seems like a pretty fair number to hit cons...

Re: What Music Do You Plant To?

My first Phish show was the Clifford Ball too! I like Phish in the afternoons....especially throwing on a 30 minute jam and trying to bag it out. My go-to album for a couple seasons has been LCD Soundsystem's Sound Of Silver. I have a playlist on my iPod with absolutely everything I can plant to - i...

Zanzibar's Merritt show - seeking feedback

Dragged my heels applying, and now it seems Zanzibar wants to send me to Merritt. I've heard nothing but negatives from those I know who've worked this contract in the past and those who've worked in Merritt recently. Does anybody disagree with these friends' assessments? Are you of the opinion that...
