Re: Beetle 2015

Without experience, and if you don't plant for a company that probes in the winter, it is hard to get on. Especially this year I would think. Not impossible, but it's a disadvantage for sure. Do some digging around on the Alberta Purchasing Connection website and you'll find a list of interested bid...

Re: Beetle 2015

Well it looks like the 1st round of tenders are already out, and the long term forecast for AB is looking like a dryer and milder winter than usual. Fingers crossed we don't need to break out the snowshoes this year. Whoop whoop, Is anyone else excited for the season?

Anarchists and forestry workers take note: dissolve styrofoam packing peanuts into gasoline and you will end up with something similar to napalm. Pour contents into plastic grocery bags, tie off the ends, and place strategically into stubborn piles, or onto the doorsteps of disgraced former Prime Mi...

Re: Beetle 2015

I'm curious what anyone's thoughts are about the upcoming beetle season? In particular, do you think the amount of money doled out for beetle work will diminish due to the collapse of the Albertan economy, or do you see a business as usual type scenario. I know I for one definitely hope for the latt...

Re: Tree Planter Union?

It could of course happen sooner if the workforce would organize a walkout at the start of the Spring season, but we know that will never happen. Why do we know that won't ever happen? Has anyone ever tried it before? It seems to me like this site, such as it is frequented by knowledgeable, profess...

I thought it was adorable that the author didn't bother to find out how to spell "caulks" or "Silvicool" correctly. I believe he just spelled it the way that we in the silviculture/forestry industry actually pronounce caulks - "corks" – and then used the proper spellin...

Thanks Tnalp! I gathered as much when I saw their ad on one of those job boards you spoke of... Hmm, while I wouldn't mind my brushing season to last into November, living in a tent and cooking for myself doesn't sound all that appealing on the north coast at that time of year.

Amalguin, Newforest, thanks for all the info!! I'm feeling quite scared of this new series too, from all I've heard about them. In fact, I actually just picked up another used 550 to add to the arsenal in order to prolong the inevitability of eventually having to buy a "chip saw". Maybe if...

Anyone out there have any thoughts on the new Stihl 560's? I have a couple of well used 550's that are still running like tops, but I'm considering investing in a 560 for the extra jump in power; however, I'm a little concerned that Stihl hasn't hashed out the inevitable bugs of such a new model... ...
