Yes both videos were from High Level. Mystery Creamer was from around season 5 or 6 and the other was from season 8 I think. Can't say how much I was planting, lost my tally book long ago.

Tips from a retired highballer
I had a fairly green treeplanter get in touch with me asking for advice and tips on planting fast. I thought I would share the email I wrote back to share my thoughts after 10 seasons and 3 million trees planted, officially retired now. Excerpt of original email: Simon, I am hoping that you might co...

Thanks for the backup Scooter. My username makes me readily identifiable and I don't feel the need to hide much. I'd prefer not to be hired onto a contract that sets the bar so low. Just a quick note to add, we were staying in some cabins with no water or electricity (separate bath/shower house). Big Sky seems to have had some good things going for it in the past. Tree prices have flatlined or declined recently, and the distance to drive to the blocks seems to be getting further and further. It's a laid back atmosphere, but that also seems to invite a lot of cutting corners. The camp costs w...

I wouldn't oppose to it but the post was supposed to focus more on the complaint process. Maybe I'll put a stay away warning in the company thread. That being said there were some planters who seemed fine with the whole situation, I definitely wasn't the only one who decided to quit though. *Update*...

To debunk an idea is a considerable claim. I just can't say I've been blown away, with due respect to the work having already been done. One purpose of not answering a question, is to force participants to present new ideas, so others may learn, so I may learn, be enlightened and perhaps view the p...

I'm not savvy with computer modelling but I would like to see some different scenarios examined. Re: The Myth of Perfect Density Debunked
I think that a solution to the problem is to use 5.64m plot cords for pay plots, while the 3.99m cords can be used by planters and foreman for their own reference since they are faster to use. I remember doing a hectare plant job once where the poor guy across the road from me got sent back to bump ...

The Myth of Perfect Density Debunked
I decided to make a demonstration of why "perfect density" using a 3.99m length plot cord for typical planting densities is not mathematically possible. In the example I use of density 1400 stems/hectare, the plots can vary between 4 and 9, with the target being 7. This means that when thr...

Efficiency matters when you are working with fly-in camps and 80% heli-blocks. Those are some expensive rides to and from the block. The reasons behind the loss of contract has nothing to do with tree quality or the planters really.

Avenza is pure gold for planning your day of foremanning. You can use it to cut day-piece sizes to suit the different production averages of planters on the crew. I know a planter who uses a staff who had a lot of 7k+ days this last season. He's worked out a technique that can match fast planting with a D-handle. I don't think that a staff handle is necessarily better in creamy land, but it can definitely keep up with a d-handle. Wish I had a video to share.

Quebec has a season that runs through until the end of September if you can speak french. I'm not sure if I could handle planting 8 cent furrows anymore, but camp costs are regulated at $10 a day and they have to provide non-tenting accommodation.

I think that a 15 minute walk in is only 15 minutes of lost planting time. At least where I work, we always finish work at 6pm for ground access, whether it's a 5 minute or 1.5 hour access route. I bought a set of 4-baggers to use in fast land with a mono-culture prescription. They are effective for distributing weight, and you can also bag up more trees if you need to bang off a deep piece.
