Re: Pie and Coffee

I can vouch for New Leaf in Burns Lake...delicious breakfast, pie and coffee. Good prices and very receptive to planters.
Also in Burns Lake is Alternative Grounds, which although has good food and coffee, is a little steep in price, and a bit hoity-toity.

Re: What makes planting unique...?

I nearly posted about this a couple weeks ago but I must have been distracted. I have a very difficult time with this, having worked in other sectors of the resources industry where, you are right, it is absolutely unacceptable to pay a camp cost. I have worked with former tree planters in these oth...

Interesting post. I just wanted to add that everyone, regardless of career or job they choose, starts at the bottom and works their way up to where they want to be. The only exception may be a son or daughter of a wealthy business owner who inherits the company. Otherwise, very few people start off...

Re: Buying tree planting shovel online 2013 season

Oh, to be a rookie again. For what it's worth, I used a Workwizer for 3 seasons. After my second year I had the right kicker ground off, tapped the shovel blade to a very slight angle to the right, and shaved the blade down a bit. It took me about that long to develop a relationship with my shovel s...

Lumber prices increasing is not necessarily translating to the whole spectrum of the forestry industry. My husband bought a logging truck last spring and although he is making some solid coin, prices could be a whole fuck of a lot better than they are. It isn't unheard of for mill and logging compan...

Holy shit. Buy a huge tent that is easy to set up and get a good tarp and ground sheet. Planting sucks enough as it is, at least try to keep yourself comfortable if you're going full retard and becoming a rookie this year. And don't leave pizza in your tent. Bears like pizza.

Good experienced workers need to continue to leave low-priced work if they find themselves in those situations. The price of the tree should directly influence the quality of the work. I agree. The day is coming really, really soon when most good, experienced planters are going to cut their losses ...

Alright I was kidding about the crack and the stashing. But I do second the bagging up right when you get to the cache tip. Omg, it's that time of year again.

Where's everyone starting this year? And when?

By the sounds of it there could be a bit of a delay for spring plant BC, depending on snow melt as always.

I'm tentative May 6 with the possibility of May 2 start, in the 100 Mile House area.

Have a good season!

Dusty, I was caught in a lightning storm in that same area last year.

The storms roll in like clockwork around 2:45pm every single day. Sometimes they'll cruise on by, other times you get your ass handed to you on the block.

Scary stuff. Be careful out there guys :)

Any army surplus store can hook you up with a CF issue thermarest. They are durable as hell and pack up small and quickly. I also notice that they don't deflate very much at all.

They are also excellent for day off Slip 'n Slide events as they dry quickly.
