Re: Fall planting question
If they are just getting pulled, bundled and put into cold storage until the Spring. They will be fine. Someone can correct me on the following point if I am wrong...the only time where there would be concern is if the trees have flushed and not hardened off yet. If this were the case they might die...

Re: Fuck Flagging
Flagging has it's place.... but that doesn't mean you always need it. I think two things are important here... (1) Practice makes perfect I think, generally, practice makes perfect in this situation. Learn to look for your TREES and not for flag. You will need to train your eyes to see trees. So whe...

I don't think bait bags were very successful for the MPB stuff...wonder if the 'trap trees' will be more effective...or spruce beetle management will eventually mimic the MPB program.

Re: What's Your Feedback on the Tree Tally App?
Haven't had issues with the price on iPhone, but requiring info like seedlot, treatment type, etc. before being able to use it makes it annoying. I've also noticed you have to swipe through the combos to add to your tally... My Rite in the Rain and pen work better so far and ultimately seems faster....

Re: Tree Tally app for mobile
-> I think you should be able to add a bagup....not just keep a running tally. So it would list each bagup individually and then have a running tally. I like seeing the variability in my day (esp if I'm timing myself - but also just in general) -> Would be cool if we could export our data to a sprea...

Re: The Ultimate Camp Costs Thread
I read somewhere that they were projecting food cost to go 4.6% this year....already a noticeable increase here on the coast. And that is in a major town. I can't imagine what the cost of food will be like for people working in places like Gold River or North of CR. Scooter you might want to start t...

Re: Coastal Specific Gear
I agree with Scooter on the knives - and if you can get yourself at least one decent chopping knife... Also agree on the slow cooker..If you don't have the room for a slow cooker - hit up a local thrift shop and get one, then donate it at the end of the season. I strongly believe in the value of rai...

Re: camp costs in bc
I'd say unless you are in a motel, I haven't worked in a BC camp where the camp cost wasn't 25$ +tax. I've paid as little as 13$/day in motel shows... but you then have to pay for your own food.

Re: Is the BC Government Losing Control?
I don't know if we can really say BC gov't is 'losing' control. From my understanding of the legislation and conversations with some older foresters who have worked with the MOF, there have been a few waves in terms of the level of enforcement that the MOF has. I think also, that we are kind of appr...

What's up with the stock? Why these trees and not those?
This is an interesting publication on selecting stock types. Some of this is the information people look at when suggesting stock for the blocks we plant... This can give you an idea of how stock selection can help address regional issues and things that may impede blocks from eventually become free...

Scooter, I know the one you are taking about...I actually came across them in a really weird place. The Wheatsheaf pub in Cedar (by Nanaimo) has a cold beer and wine store and they sell them there. In a more honest manner: I think that at least four of those five are no longer operating. Not sure about the fifth. I also thought that it was Triple 8. I haven't heard that name in a few years. Triple 8 is long gone - somewhere along the line I think it became M&L and then eventually Nootka R...

Re: thoughts on deet-free/all natural bug repellants?
My partner and I bought Cucamanga's bug dope and to be honest it was the only thing that worked in some areas - yes you do have to reapply, generally after a baggup, it worked the best when it was directly on your skin (which I don't mind cause it's all natural, safe and smells pretty good). We like...

I'm going to have to agree with Jules on this one.... There is a big difference between the lifespan of gear and defective gear.... Re: Dogs on blocks? Pros , Cons, Ideas?
I personally don't have a dog, but do enjoy having them around camp if they are well trained. I've been bit by an aggressive dog that shouldn't have been at a camp, and while I was upset about it...I still enjoy having some dogs around. The company I worked for has a one dog per crew policy that wor...

As far as I've heard it's all just speculation that Khaira is somehow related to Dewan or Tiger. Both of those companies have been around longer than Khaira was. How about AKD Reforestation? I hear they just lowballed a BCTS job in Quesnel at a bid of 22 cents. Maybe they're related? AK D and Dewan...

Just started this Insanity workout as preseason training. 60 day intensive interval training workout. Painful and lots of work but I think it might be worth it.
