No hips

With another season quickly approaching, I find myself once again struggling to come up with a better way to keep a set of bags on my skinny ass. After years of using them, I gave up shoulder straps in favour of better range of motion. It feels way better, I think, but having to pull up my bags/pant...

Re: Brinkman's north island work. worth while?

Working north island and beyond with brinkman. Its all true! we even have to trap our own food, and swim to the block as well... You wouldn't like it. Oh and our foremen are actually grizzly bears, who have a taste for human blood... Stay away

Re: performance enhancers

Modafinil , Armodafinil and Caffeine + Aniracetam, Oxiracetam and Choline for a mental edge, low doses of oral steroids like oxandrolone to keep you jacked and GHB before bed to stimulate endogenous growth hormone secretion to speed recovery and healing Is that a joke? Do you walk away with any mon...

Re: Snow Caches

I've seen snow caches used in Ontario in years past; exclusively as a cost saving measure, and I thought, at the expense of a higher mortality/cull rate. This season though, I helped uncover an experimental snow cache for a large western forestry company. Apparently, with some tweaking, it could bec...

Re: Brinkman: BC 2010

Worked the Blue Ridge spring/summer contracts near whitecourt/swan hills with Brinkman last year. BR had a full spectrum of land, from heli-nightmare blocks to sand trenches that lasted for days. A bit disorganized for a while due to a change in management, but all in all, a good contract with fair ...

Re: Planting with a Garden Trowel

A guy on my crew this year, big bad Pete, forgot his shovel twice. He used a Pulaski one day, hoedad style. The other day, broke 2k with a bread knife on a road/burn block.

Re: Broland Enterprises

Broland/Wilderness is out of the treeplanting game, for what reason, I have no idea. Speaking from the point of view of a former Wilderness planter, it was an awesome company to work for (as a rookie, mind you). The crewbosses were very experienced and good people in general, along with most of the ...

Shin Guards in AB

I'm going to be doing my first season in Alberta this year, and I've been told to expect some differences from Ontario in the land. Slash, wild roses, thorny vines, and various other lovely landscape features are good reason (say experienced Alberta planters) to wear soccer-type shin guards under ga...

Re: C-Cut

The C-cut is way superior in clay, compact ground, or when air pockets are an issue. Apparently, an air pocket (in a properly closed hole) is no longer considered a quality problem. An improperly closed hole, or shallow tree would be far more likely to dry the root pod. As long as you are planting ...
