Re: Shakti Reforestation

I've never done cone picking but I just read that they pick the cones from freshly harvested blocks. The only hauling I've seen has been from north of High Level and west of Fort Vermilion. There's also 30cm-40cm of snow on the ground, so not sure how that would affect the work.

Re: Shakti Reforestation

FYI...Pretty sure I saw these guys on the highway between high level and Rainbow Lake a couple days ago, towing two sleds. I can't be sure what they were doing, but I figured it was MPB surveys.

Re: Shovels

I bought one of the new workwizers this season. It's a pile of junk. By day 8, having only planted soft ground, the handle snapped in two. By day 10 the tip of the shovel had bent inwards and a few days later it snapped off. I have 4 or 5 bushpro's and workwizers lying around and each is a piece of ...

Re: Wet suits for rainy days?

Helly Hanson stretch raingear. Add a thin merino wool and/or polypro layer if it's cold and that's all you'll need. Neoprene gloves under the usual pair for the hands and you'll be laughing at everyone complaining.

Re: Getting in Shape

I've always been turned off by the mystical new age stuff that seems to go hand in hand with yoga, though everyone keeps telling me how great yoga can be. If you like working out at home, you can follow along to the fitnessblender hiit (high intensity interval training?) workouts on youtube: https:/...

Re: Ambidextrous Planting

An added bonus comes if you encounter injury. I had some injury issues this season and for a couple short stretches I had to plant with either only my right or left hand. Without having that option, I certainly would have had to take some of those days off. Same thing happened to me this past seaso...

Re: Canvas tents

After spending all summer in this Kodiak tent, I'll update this post with a few pictures and details of how it went. Basically, I had a comfortable "home", even though we had some freezing cold nights and I woke up one day in 6 inches of water. Couple of pictures of the tent on a rainy day...

Re: Canvas tents

Well, I got the 10x10 Kodiak one. Cheapest way to get it seemed to be to ship it to Blaine, WA and go across the border to get it. Haven't gone to pick it up yet, so we'll see if I get charged tax. For $380 with a ground tarp and shipping it was about 50% more than the 3-man North Face I bought last...

Canvas tents

So, after 5 seasons sleeping in small nylon tents I'm thinking of upgrading my living establishments for this coming season. Has anyone ever slept in a decent canvas tent for a summer, or know anyone who has? I'm looking at getting one from either of these two companies: http://springbar.pinnaclecar...
