Re: Can a planter be fired for planting too slow?

huh? That's not true, and even if it were it would be a really negligible amount of money. Offset that with the profit that your company makes from its good planters... Do you get benefits from your company making profits? No. Should you be responsible for any money it loses? No. It's not taken out...

Want to plant more trees this season? Then work harder.

Finally, some evidence that gives credence to my frequent exhortations to my planters: "More experienced planters clearly plant more trees than their less experienced comrades. They are also more efficient at putting trees in the ground. But, their increased production doesn’t only stem from in...

Personally, there's no way I would have someone else in my truck calling my km. I feel that unless I am actively involved in knowing where I am on the road, and I'm keeping track of kms myself, then I won't be as likely to hear vehicles coming at me (or anything else on the radio). And while some mi...

Re: Proposed $10,000 to hire foreigners in Ontario

Wow, amazing how much spin this got in conservative media. From my (very brief) exposure to this plan in a variety of media, it's a $10,000 tax credit (rather than a grant) for employers who hire skilled (rather than unskilled, as treeplanting is [and there's another can of worms opened...]) landed ...

However, the largest contributing factor to production is effort. Planters who you find sweating and breathing hard will be mak...

Re: Scheduling; some numbers

The planting schedule won't make a huge difference to planters in terms of money, although it might shorten or lengthen their season a little bit. This is especially true if you only work for one company, and everyone plants the same schedule. Whether you're planting 5 and 2's or 3 and 1's, your com...

Fortunately, that's not the case for me: we get the quoted tree price plus vacation pay. Further, as a foreman, it gets added on top of my total earnings (planted trees + percentage of crew production).

I think it all depends on how your body works. I've only had minor problems with my wrists from planting (quadding and lifting boxes, however...), and that's using a normal D. The whole black and white view of dish duty is a little ridiculous. Given the right circumstances, doing dishes makes sense. For example: I work with a small company, with a small camp. The cook gets paid well, cooks well, and yes, does groceries too. Each individual planter does their own dishes (c...

CTV may be pretty liberal to you, but it is hugely right wing to me, and CBC would also be a little right wing.
