Actually, funny that you mention drug addicts. The first site I developed was a local shoot up site. The owners of the property paid me to build a fence, so I did that before tearing up the grass. But over the course of the few months I spent developing it, I found over 300 drug needles. It was brut...

There's been a few key influential chef's here in town, that have really spread the word about local food. I would go so far as to say that a quarter of the restaurants here in town are buying local. Part of the reason that there are so many start up farms in the last year. Our farmers market is als...

I've also got that Murray Hallam dvd set on aquaponics, it's pretty awesome. The next arm of our operation will be two 3000 square foot greenhouses with aquaponics, producing year round veggies and talapia fish.

Hey Mike, good questions. To answer them... I do make cash from farming a small area. My farm consists of 8 front and back yards that total one acre in size. It's a lot bigger than it was when I started. I started on .25 an acre. I sell to 14 restaurants, farmers markets, and run a CSA veggie box pr...

Hey guys, it's been years since I've been on here, but I got a message today from a member, which prompted me to log in. I've been retired from planting since 2009, and I've found a new career that was a great transition from planting for me, and in fact, makes me way more income than planting could...

a hummus container is way easier and works the best, i find. you don't even need to cut anything on it. just put the roll right in it, with no lid and the flag just feeds off the side. i found that if you make a slit on the side of it for the flag to feed through, it'll eventually start to rip the f...

that's a good point. you need to be adaptable. that's what's good about planting in the southern interior. the land and specs change a lot, so you'll learn different ways to cover your ground.

i usually never use a kicker, but when i do i use a left kicker for a right handed planter. the reason i think it's better to have the kicker inside, is that you can use either leg to kick it with. thus, spreading out the impact on your knees. i use a staff too, so sometimes when i'm jumping down fr...

there really is no comparison betwean ground in BC and alberta, to say you were paid 18c in Bc versus 10 in alberta is like apples and oranges. quality is a HUGE difference, and density DOES matter(a lot) even if you are taking the same amount of steps, they are shorter, therfore faster and easier....

i think the main thing with flagging, especially in bc - that it's kind of common knowledge among, at least the people i know, that you area plant. if you see a log that is kind of diagonal but going roughly the way you are going, you area plant everything behind it. you drop one flag at the end and...

How could anyone complain about 12c / tree? I was making 7.5c in Ontario planting "furrows" that had been growing over for 5 years. We were pulling the tops of trees down, tying a flag to the tip, and letting them go to mark our lines so the planters beside us could see where we were. Peo...
