Don't get too excited, this video is not nearly as good as any of the King Kong Reforestation series. Actually, this one is designed more for people who have never planted before, so they can see one example of what tree planting is all about. I'll try to video boxes on a couple other types of blocks in the next year or two, so potential planters get a better idea of the type of variety there is out there.
This video is pretty long (50 minutes) and is probably a waste of time for vets to look at:
Here's the description that I wrote up for the video:
This video shows Scooter planting a box of 180 trees on a woodlot in BC, in September of 2011. There isn't anything special about this video - it isn't intended to show how fast someone can plant, nor is it particularly challenging ground (except for being fairly compact soil). But at least it will be useful for someone who has never planted before, but who might be considering a career as a tree planter. My goal over the next couple of summers is to film a couple different boxes on different types of ground, since there really is a lot of variety in planting in western Canada.
The background music is episode 090 of my weekly electronic-music radio show, "Subterranean Homesick Grooves." This show is broadcast on terrestrial FM on CHMA 106.9 in Sackville, New Brunswick, and it is distributed on the net through podcasting and iTunes. The show is also legally licensed for distribution with SOCAN, the Canadian licensing & regulatory agency. For more information about this particular episode, check out this link:
I filmed another box this summer. This time, it was on faster ground, an oil lease in Alberta. One of the best oil leases that I've seen. I tried to move a little faster in this one, although I was still aiming to plant very high quality trees so it wasn't quite at my fastest sustainable speed.
Here's the YouTube description from the video:
We've filmed me planting another box of trees. This time it was on an oil lease, so it's relatively fast planting. There is no commentary over top of this one, unlike the original video.
Anyone can learn to plant trees quickly . But if you want to really excel, learn to plant trees quickly at near perfect quality. I tried to make sure that a checker wouldn't be able to find a single faulted tree as I planted this box.
250 trees in 23 minutes. Check out the slow-motion footage at the end of the video too.
