I had a question last night from someone asking about the legality of deductions from pay in provinces other than BC (probably spurred by the thread for Legacy), and I was asked to post some labour standards information. Here's information for BC, Alberta, and Ontario, including some screenshots. It's pretty easy to find all this stuff online.
Also, if you look at the bottom of this post, I've attached the current PDF fact sheets for each of these three provinces.
If you had deductions from your paycheques in the past (possibly going back more than one year), you should be able to call the appropriate employment agency for the province in which the work was done, show your pay stub with the relevant deductions, and you should be able to get reimbursed. It's definitely worth a phone call. I assume this would also apply for overclaim deductions, because a company isn't allowed to deduct overclaims from workers as a group.
