Any idea for how a 37 year old can get a visa to plant in Canada?

Post by oxband »

I'm a 37 year old academic. I've done research on reforestation in the US, and I want to spend a summer in Canada planting to do the same. I have experience planting in the US, having done it a season here for reearch. I found a company willing to hire me in Ontario but I'd need a visa, and they dont want to sponsor one for me since that costs them money. FWIW, I'm also a filmmaker although that didnt seem to be a visa option either. I've looked online, and it seems like there is no easy visa answer here unless they sponsor me.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Did you look into the Working Holiday Visa? That might be age-limited, but if not, it doesn't require a company to sponsor you.
No companies want to "sponsor" a worker, because of the paperwork, and the potential for liability for worker benefits, etc.

(to build community forests, not to be turned into 2x4's and toilet paper)

Education visas allow work don't they?
All of my company reviews and experience (The Planting Company, Windfirm, ELF, Folklore, Dynamic, Timberline, Eric Boyd, Wagner, Little Smokey, Leader, plus my lists for summer work and coastal) can be found at the start of the Folklore review due to URL and character limits.
