Overview of Tree Planter Training series

Post by Scooter » Tue Feb 21, 2017 10:22 am

Our revised and updated 2017 version of the Tree Planter Training series is now online. This series consists of a set of twenty videos about various topics, all of which are free to watch on YouTube, and the videos may be embedded on any tree planting company's website. This series was recorded in high quality 4K resolution. Due to time constraints in the winter of early 2018, the final versions of all videos in this series will not be released until January/February 2019.

If you look in other topics within this forum, you can see text versions of the information presented in each of the videos, but here are direct links to all twenty videos. They're broken up into a set of eight videos that should be watched a couple months before the season starts, by people who want an idea of what the industry is all about, to help make a decision about whether or not to apply for a job as a tree planter. The other twelve videos are more specific to the actual task of planting trees, and should be watched at the start of your season, so you have an understanding of what's going on when you arrive on your first work site.

The material in this training series is now being organized into a proper training book, which is now available on Amazon: http://www.replant.ca/stepbystep.html
That book contains all the information in this online training series, plus a great deal of additional training and reference information.

Videos that will help newcomers understand what the industry is all about:

Note that in some cases, experienced planters may read part of the training info and say, "Hey wait, that's an over-simplification, the truth is a bit more complicated than that!" We expect that to happen frequently. Remember, this training material is targeted at people with no previous planting experience. It's going to be overwhelming as it is. In many cases, we've made a conscious decision to strive for simplicity rather than trying to talk about complex topics in much much depth and accuracy. Even what we have now is more complex than necessary in a number of areas. Hopefully this series is able to evolve in the future, with ongoing revisions, and will become even better with passing years.
