Howdy. I'm in need of a new rain jacket for a fairly lengthy coastal/interior season, and am wondering if any of you have a recommendation. Previously I've just worn the stretchy helly hansen stuff. I think that even something of that material that had pit zippers and a closer fit would be a big upgrade.
It seems the consensus is that jackets from the outdoor apparel companies won't survive tree planting and coastal planters mostly opt for pvc workwear stuff.
Thanks

Re: Rain Jackets
I think what you're describing is a Viking Tempest. I've had one in the Ontario forests for a few years and the fabric has held up, but the pocket and pit zips won't close anymore. Still keeps me dry, but gets a little too breezy. I'll buy another.
Re: Rain Jackets
Last year I was looking for the same. I ended up going with a MEC GORE-TEX Waterproof Breathable that was on clearance (I think it cost ~ $145). It held up very well (long Coastal/Interior season).CampMeeting wrote: I'm in need of a new rain jacket for a fairly lengthy coastal/interior season

I know that some detergents can strip the waterproofness of jackets. Instead I would rinse it out with water and hang it up to dry (In a dry room). Now, a year later, the gore tex fabric is still in very good condition.
They no longer have the model I bought, but they have other clearance stuff.

For rain pants I used the Pioneer Lightweight Polyurethane Stretch (HI-VIZ).

Good luck out there

Thanks for the advice. I was not sure if a goretex jacket could make it through a season.newb wrote:Last year I was looking for the same. Re: Rain Jackets
Get the Helly Hansen with the zipper and the double-cuff.
The double-cuff is your best friend. Don't get a raincoat without it!
