Don't work for Nechako.... You can do better. Bad prices and inept upper management. Good foremen and supervisors though. A good rule of thumb is if a company's office is in Prince George you shouldn't bother.

PG is like the planting capital of Canada isnt it? I heard some where that there are hundreds of companies based out of PG, no?

You're absolutely right, but that's a drawback- not a big selling point. Why does a planter need hundreds of companies? You only need two work for 2 or 3 to put a full season together. All the big crappy companies are based in pg. Because there are so many companies hundreds of planters constantly flood the city and are hated by the locals, who pretty much hate everyone including themselves anyways. I've spent a lot of time there, and have been robbed by hotel staff, harassed by crackheads, challenged to fights, and knocked out by bouncers at the iron horse. I've also had some great times there too, but the ratio isn't worth it. I guess I just hate PG... I'd recommend working in the kootenays, okanagan, smithers, even quesnel areas over PG to anyone, anyday. And not for nechako.

Call me crazy, but maybe you shouldn't hang out at the Iron Horse.
I mean, I run bars so I should be very pro-"hey let's go out and get hammered and cause shit and all," but you've got to draw a line somewhere. If I had to pick a decent bar in PG, I'd go out to the Alternate Pub.

Is it slander for me, as a former Nechako worker, to say that it's a shit-show, and I hope the owner rots in hell? Guess I'll find out...

there are more planting companies in PG cos PG has more crownland woodlot. every city or town has a designated area where the mills in that town can log and replant. PG's is huge. so i wouldn't argue that planting companies set up there just to fuck you over, they set up like anyone else would do... to make money. my basic rule of thumb is avoid the large companies with large office staff... they have more overhead so shitty tree prices.

the ironhorse is owned and run by hells angels... avoid unless you're a coke head.

Okay, a bit over the top, so I'll edit that. And again never worked at Nechako but a couple of planters from there saved a buddy of mine from getting beat up by a gang of bikers at the Ironhorse so I feel the need to hack on the people
It was really a legendary moment in Ironhorse/treeplanting history. A Nechako van comes out of nowhere onto first ave, the side doors pop open, some guys grab my buddy who is being surrounded by angry gangsta's and then the Nechako's guyes grab my buddy and jump into the van and then they sped off as if in a Bond movie. It was awesome,

The ironhorse has been closed down for like 5 years which tells you how old and up to date Hammy's info. is

So Duncan, you worked at Nechako? And what, you were in management, and that's why you know Hamsterizer was fired? Come on, you're not adding much to the conversation here. It just sounds like a personal vendetta and lots of nonsensical tirades. Give it a rest buddy.

All Sebastians are fine, upstanding gentlemen, so I'm afraid your desire to fire one is indicative of your character. Yes, ALL Sebastians. And while I don't have any personal vendettas, against you or otherwise, I am quite fond of them in general.
And I've known a few people from Nechako as well, but don't feel I'm near enough to comment on the company, whether to refute Hammie's comments or otherwise.

I'm going to have to agree with that, most Sebastians are pretty decent,
But not joking about the Ironhorse story, and it has been closed for years so I found much that hammy has to say out of date though I no longer know anyone at nechako so I know nothing currently other than 5 years ago in this industry is a lifetime sometimes.

I'm sure there are one or two northern companies that like to say they can pay with the best???

From what I have heard, Nechako is finished. Wayne Wood is busy selling off his gear and about to close down the office. His most able supervisor left to start up Rhino.

With the permission of Scooter I just copied updated information from this thread to the Treeplanter’s Database found at http://hardcoretreeplanters.com/ to make it easier to view comments by treeplanters and compare treeplanting companies against one another, in the hopes that they will treat and pay their planters better.

I'm guessing Nechako's gone?

I had some good times brushing and spacing for them in the past.

Their website is still up, but it's been fiddled with, numbers are messed with and something about vampires. And their office on 2nd is not there anymore.
