Proper Place for Criticism of Companies

Post by Scooter »

If you have feedback regarding a specific company, please post that feedback in the Companies forum, not in individual job posting threads. On one hand we want planters to be as informed as possible about prospective companies, but on the other we also want to encourage companies to post as much information about their hiring as possible. We don't feel it's productive to have specific foremen's posts slammed because they work for a company someone else has a low opinion of. It simply means that foremen from that company won't post here anymore and that regular posters who work for that company will feel as if they're working for a company that's persecuted on the boards and either not talk about their experience or stop posting.

If you have feedback on a specific contract, however, we feel that's certainly fair game. For instance, feel free to post comments such as, "I worked here last year and prices seemed low, and this year they've dropped their bid price even further. Be careful of working on this contract."

Chances are high that if a planter is reading the job forums they'll do a bit of research about the company in question elsewhere on the forums. If someone is going to invest three or four months of their life and their future financial stability on reading one job posting without having the effort to quickly look at the company in the Companies Forum, then (a) that person is too lazy to be a planter; and (b) is a moron.

So essentially, some Q&A will definitely be permitted here. But ultimately, the most important thing to remember is that these job postings get deleted each fall when the season is long over, whereas the posts in the Companies Forum will remain as a permanent record. What's the point of having a detailed discussion about the pros and cons of a particular company here if it just gets erased in the fall and all that accumulated shared knowledge disappears? I'd rather see that kind of information posted in the permanent Companies forum so people can refer to it in future years.
