I've had this checklist from a Search and Rescue outfit in my day-timer for about two years now, which lists a whole lot of things that a recreational ATV user should have with them on a day of quadding around in the woods. It's a pretty imposing list. Anyway, for lack of a better idea of what to do with it, I'm going to post it here:
- Check the Fuel
- Bring extra Fuel
- Check your Oil Level
- Safety Helmet
- Safety Glasses or Goggles
- Gloves
- Proper Footwear
- Liability Insurance
- Basic Tool Kit
- Spare Key
- First Aid Kit
- Towing Strap
- Map of the Area
- Compass
- GPS
- Whistle
- Knife/Saw
- Matches/Lighter
- Emergency Aluminum Blanket
- Rain Gear
- Water
- Snacks
- Flashlight
- Tire Repair Kit
- Air Pump
- Sunscreen
- Insect Repellent
And finally, let someone know where you are going and your estimated return time. Also, tell them how long to wait before calling for help if you're overdue.
