Outdoor Living Network Ed's Up, Tree Planting

Post by Mike »

From an reddit AMA with the Barenaked Ladies:
Not a question, but Ed I love watching you on Ed's Up. It's a great show, but damn you suck at planting trees! As for the rest of you guys, thank you for all the great songs throughout the years. As most Canadians, I was hooked after hearing Lovers in a Dangerous Time, and have been a fan ever since.

I don't suck at planting trees. Tree planting just sucks!
“Tree planting was the worst,” says Robertson, who capped off a two-day trip to Winnipeg yesterday with some Search and Rescue Technician training at the Canadian Forces’ 17 Wing Winnipeg compound. “I would have a little more understanding of tree planters if they were under watched guard, with rifles pointed at them the whole time. But for eight cents a tree, to plant toilet paper for the lumber companies, f— that.”
(from jam.canoe.ca/Music/Artists/B/Barenaked_Ladies/2007/06/14/pf-4259669.html )

It looks like it's Season 1, Episode 4. In Flin Flon, Manitoba.

Here's a direct link to Amazon something:

Original air date: February 1, 1998

TV.com shows it as being available on Amazon instant watching and something called Vudu, but I couldn't get either to work.

I watched it. They're a little unnecessarily dickish to Ed on camera (worst rookie ever/shittiest planter ever...what do you really expect), but all in all, it was pretty good. Decently done/solid humour/etc.

Barenaked Ladies - Never is Enough ;

I never had to spend a summer planting trees
I never worked my way through a forest inch by inch
doubled over on my hands and knees
I never spent a single day in retail
