These pictures were taken in May and June of 2003, while planting for Weldwood of Canada, Hinton Division.

Photo

Byron, putting up a safety sign on the road leading to his block.

Photo

Moving camp out to the bush. The logistics involved are pretty interesting, as you can probably guess from trying to coordinate the movements of about thirty personal and company vehicles.

Photo

A big pile of pooh. Some of the planters were nervous because they thought it came from a grizzly bear, but it was just from a horse.

Photo

A box end sticker from a box of 240 pine trees, out of one of the PRT nurseries.

Photo

Carmen, the senior First Aid Attendant, is shown here running a first aid simulation with Allyson. The scenario was that one of the girls on the crew lost consciousness for no apparent reason, and was discovered by another planter.

Photo

Ironically, that exact situation happened a few weeks later, with exactly the same people involved! Luckily however, Allyson was taken to the hospital quickly, and was taken care of properly.

Photo

This photo was also taken during the simulation, as the crew loads the stretcher and basket into the ETV (emergency transport vehicle).

Photo

A nice landscape and block photo.

Photo

A nest of grouse eggs, hidden in the moss on the forest floor.

Photo

Here is Shelley, taking some video footage of the block.

Photo

Another block, with some standing Aspen remaining on it.

Photo

A nicely planted pine seedling.

Photo

Byron, taking boxes to the block on his quad.

Photo

A photo of the inside of one of the foremen's insulated canopy trucks, with several dozen boxes of trees.

Photo

He's hard to see, but here's a mouse sticking his head out from behind the quad tire.

Photo

An oil derrick. We see these all over the place in Alberta.

Chris and Scirolli typing plots into the computer.

Photo

Another nest, this time of some sort of small songbird.

Photo

Vexar cones surrounding planted seedlings, used to keep deer from browsing on the young trees.

Photo

Samantha, looking at some of the horses that wandered up to check out the helicopter.

A photo of camp at 6am, before the trucks all leave for the day.

Another freshly planted pine seedling.

A random cowboy that wandered by one of our blocks on a cattle drive.

The cowboy's cattle.

Photo

Scirolli, getting into yet another argument with his walkbox, because of spools of string that were the wrong size.

Photo

The snowplows or graders must have knocked this sign down in the winter, so I tried to stand it back up one afternoon, although I couldn't find a pole to put it on.

Photo

The girls' hands can get in pretty rough shape.

Photo

Transferring trees between reefers.

Photo

Duncan and his trophies. Duncan volunteered to be in charge of recycling for the summer, so all the recycleables are collected on each contract and he stores them in his van and takes them into town at the end of the contract.
