Photos

These pictures were taken in October, all over BC and Alberta.

I think this was near Houston or Smithers maybe.

A red fuel container for heavy equipment.

Near Burns Lake, waiting to cross the ferry.

Apparently, this block is supposed to be planted next summer. I think they may have made a slight mistake somewhere.

Forest Service Road signage.

Early morning.

The hill overlooking Kamloops, around dinner time.

On a block in 100 Mile House. The rain clouds were ominous.

A random cutblock.

Fresh logging.

This photo does a good job of demonstrating how elevation affects temperature.

A pile of slash & scrap wood. I'm not sure why this is going to be burned. Maybe the wood is rotten.

This was a slash pile yesterday.

Snowy trenches near Quesnel.

Fixing my truck. I was on my way to Mackenzie when a fuel line ruptured and blew diesel all over the engine. I'm glad it wasn't gasoline, or the truck would have burned. I managed to give it a temporary fix, enough to get back to Prince George.

Dinner.

Snow on the mountains.

A cute little bear.

Never look back.

Early morning mist.

I'm not sure what this feather came from. Maybe a flicker.

I can't remember where this was. Bridge Lake, I guess. I think it's near 100 Mile House.

Trenches.

Also near 100 Mile House, taken at about 6:30am.

A nice view.

A skidder, used in logging.

I think this was near Revelstoke or Golden.

This deer didn't seem too worried about me, although he did watch me.

Overlooking the tailing pond dam at the Teck copper mine west of Logan Lake.

There is something a bit nerve-wracking about driving through these conditions, hundreds of miles away from anyone else, and knowing that if you get the truck stuck, you're on your own.

This deer was completely tame. It was on the lawn beside my motel room in Williams Lake.

More logging.

Pretty ribbons.

Termite trails.

My truck.

A logging truck.

Belligerent bird.

A fence post near sunset.

I love the lighting on the trees in this photo.

A bridge near the old MacGregor logging camp, northeast of Prince George.

Alberta trenches.

Outside Kamloops.

Another Kamloops block.

More snow, more adventures.

The fence post theme is strong this year.

Although these look a bit like high-bush blueberries, the leaves look thin. They're juniper.

Get your mind out of the gutter.

Fall colours.

That's quite the road.

Some sort of permanent test plot.

More fall colours.

A ranch near 100 Mile House.

Rainbows (don't ignore the faint one behind the tree).

More ranch land.

Mount Robson.

An excavator.

My knife. This is why I don't worry about running into bears anymore. I've been within petting distance of three bears in the past, and it was a bit nerve-wracking.

My truck, on a block in Kamloops.

Ominous skies.

More snow in Quesnel.

Williams Lake.

More fall colours.

Early in October.

I'm not sure why there were all these markings on this rock. I feel like it might be for rock samples, looking for mining potential.

Browse protection cones, to protect seedlings from being nibbled on by deer and other animals.

A block in Fort St. James.

More ranch property.

Perhaps near 130 Mile.

Hydro poles.

A logging truck in Alberta.

West of Rocky Mountain House.

Exploring blocks in the snow.

Healthy looking young trees.

A colourful marker in the midst of a lot of dreariness.

These bent-over trees would make it pretty hard to walk through here.

Williams Lake.

Another nice day.

The colour of the leaves is pretty rich.

Sometimes I find really odd things in the woods that I don't understand.

A field of suicide sticks.

Fall colours.

More fall colours.

Beautiful.

Another accident. I come across accidents about once per week, and flipped logging trucks almost as frequently.

Grass in 100 Mile.

Near Golden or Revelstoke, on the TransCanada.

A peaceful scene.

Tailings.

I found this little fellow being nibbled on by a bald eagle. Still warm.

White swans. I saw a couple dozen of these this fall.
