Photos

These pictures were taken in May, while working for BC Timber Sales in the Vanderhoof area.

So much white. We almost need sunglasses when working with the rookies and their new bags.

Andrew is demonstrating how to properly plant a pine tree.

Late April and early May always means chilly nights, and occasionally, fresh snow.

Here's Tiffany, trying to teach everyone how to use the shower trailer.

Paddy and Alex.

Walking out of a block at the end of a day.

Nothing really counts until the shovels are in the ground.

Don't let a bit of light snow bother you.

Moderate snow.

Tiffany, holding her morning tailgate safety meeting with her crew.

Even after the planters go to bed, there's still work to be done every night.

Sometimes, the lighting is really interesting in the evenings when the sun is low on the horizon.

Nina, checking out an Avenza map on the tablet.

The 2850C. Or for those who aren't familiar with forestry equipment, a toy for big boys.

Kris and Alex, performing some sort of camp maintenance job.

Justina, working in an old fill plant.

Stainless steel, ready for action.

Trucks in the parking lot, before everyone leaves in the morning. Don't worry about the planter laying on the ground. She just doing her morning stretches.

The breakfast lineup is long this morning.

A box-end sticker.

Julia and Cam.

A nice looking pine seedling.

Pickups coming down the Kluskus around km22.

Smoke from the Bobtail Lake fire. It looks so fresh and light and innocent here. This fire burned over twenty thousand hectares, and our camp was on high evacuation alert for several days while we watching the fire's progress.

Another photo of smoke from the fire.

I took this photo during about the only hour of rain in the entire month.

More evening lighting.

Kass.

Tire chains on a skidder.

Sebastien, just hanging out and looking good.

There can always be a lot of variety in the types of mosses and lichens that we encounter.

This May has much more pollen in the air than usual due to the extremeliy dry conditions.

The back section of this block was quite a walk-in.

Julia, working on some paperwork.

Orrin, one of my best.

A young spruce seedling.

Doing an emergency first aid simulation.

Fresh snow on the road into one of the FFT blocks.

Zach. Now this is how people should dress on the blocks.

Mike, cleaning up some garbage.

Another shot with some nice evening side-lighting.

Nina, getting ready to check some trees.

Trying to make calls from the side of the Kluskus FSR.

A logging info sign, with the hammer. When the logging trucks say, "loaded from the hammer," they mean it literally. The log truck drivers smack the ends of the logs with it, leaving an impression in the wood to prove where it came from.

A couple of the crew trucks.

Here's Marcia saying, "When you asked me to come on this special mission, you said it would be a challenge. Don't worry, I've got this."

Filling out an ERP (Emergency Response Plan).

Getting ready to test the quad on a little bridge that I made.

I was probably standing in the kitchen, eating bacon, when I took this shot.

Sara, looking like she's having far too much fun.

Paddy and Jules.

Another photo of smoke from the fire, which is getting a lot closer to our camp by now. The smoke wasn't usually this dark.

Another photo of smoke from the fire, a bit further down the road.

The photo was actually taken fairly early in the evening. It only looks so dark because of the clouds, and heavy wildfire smoke in the air.

Tiffany, driving over another of my quad bridges.

Moving my camper one evening.

Sunblock or insect repellent? Or both?

Another skidder.

Log decks.

Breaking camp at the end of a contract.

Sometimes, working late into the evenings has its advantages.
